Richard Medina is a second generation
East Chicagoan, born and raised in East Chicago. Rich has three sons
and two granddaughters. Rich is one of six children, parents are
Edward & Aurora Medina. Rich attended Indiana Harbor Catholic,
Washington High, and is a graduate of Calumet College with a degree
in Criminal Justice. Out of High School Rich worked for Inland Steel
Co, East Chicago Fire Dept, and is currently an 18-year veteran with
the East Chicago Police Dept., he holds the position of
Administrative Asst. Police Chief.
Rich has served the community in many ways, East Chicago Evening
Lions Club, Union Benefica Mexicana, Board member of the Indiana
Harbor Little League, currently serving the Lake Shore Chamber of
Commerce, Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission,
National Association of Hispanic Elected Officials, Indiana
Association of Cities and Towns, and a member of the East Chicago
Plan Commission. Rich has been politically active in East Chicago,
serving as a Delegate to the Indiana Democratic Convention, Elected
Precinct Committeeman, Elected Councilman at Large, and is currently
serving his second term as President of the East Chicago Common
Council.
